What We Do

Jericho Road Christian Ministries exists to serve the poor, the addicted and the mentally ill.

Life with mental illness is to wake to anxiety, fear and voices in the head. It is to see and hear things and yet be unsure if they are real. To walk outside with all senses at high volume, screaming – too much sensation, no peace. Life with mental illness is to receive odd looks and cruel words, to have people stare and poke fun or even cross the street in fear as you walk down the street talking to yourself. To feel like a misfit, to fear you are different – longing for friendship but fearing rejection.

The life of the addict is a life of betrayal – betrayal by the very thing that gives relief and pleasure. This substance, this drug that calms the nerves, fills the senses and eases the pain, now robs you of dignity, steals your power to choose and reduces you to servitude. What once made life bearable now demands that very life. You find yourself crossing lines, breaking promises and hurting those around you. You love it, you hate it; you love it, you hate it – you can’t break free – chained to this dance with death.

Is there any hope? At Jericho Road, we know there is hope.

For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope. When you pray, I will listen. If you look for me, you will find me. I will be found by you,” says the Lord. “I will end your captivity.”
